How do you rescue a candle that already tunnels?

Wrap aluminium foil loosely around the top of the container, folding it inward over the rim so it covers the stranded wax but leaves a clear opening above the flame. Yes, though not in the direction most people assume. An untrimmed wick makes a taller flame, and a taller flame concentrates heat upward and burns fuel faster rather than spreading the pool outward. It also flickers, soots, and mushrooms a carbon ball on the tip.

Trim to about 5mm before every burn. Use nail scissors, or pinch the black tip off with your fingers once the wax is cold. A short wick gives a small, steady, upright flame that heats the surface evenly, and even heat is what widens a melt pool.
