The color fades down the cord, not across it

Most two-tone wall hangings split the color left to right: a block of green beside a block of cream, with a vertical line where they meet. This one runs the gradient the other way. Each strand starts pale at the board and deepens as it falls, so the color change follows the curve of the swag rather than cutting across it.

The result is that the piece reads as light at the top and saturated at the bottom, with the deepest color pooling where the loops hang lowest. It is 100 cm wide and 70 cm tall, hung from a curved wooden board rather than a straight bar, with the cord swagged below it in two crossing loops.

How to hang it

Two fixings, well inside the ends of the board. A meter of rigid timber on one central hook rotates, and on a board cut to a curve that shows immediately. No weight is published, so use wall plugs.

Level the board, not the cord. The loops hang at different depths by design, so judging by eye from the swags will send you wrong. Put a level on the two mounting points and ignore what is below them.

Decide the orientation before you drill. The loops cross off-center, which means the piece has a heavier side. Hold it up and look from where you usually stand; the deeper side generally wants to face into the room rather than toward a corner.

There is nothing to comb. Both ends of every strand are fixed to the board, so the piece arrives in its finished shape and keeps it. If a loop has twisted in transit, run a hand along it to lay the strands flat - the gradient will only read correctly when they sit parallel.

Picking a colorway

Blue is the most dramatic: near-white at the board through a mid blue to a deep navy at the lowest point. It is the only colorway with a true dark in it, and the one that holds a large pale wall on its own.

Khaki grades from cream through sand to a warm tan. The quietest of the four and the one that belongs with timber, rattan and clay - the supplier photographs it above a wooden sideboard for that reason.

Green runs cream to a soft sage. Cooler than the khaki, warmer than the gray, and the safest of the four in a room that already has a color scheme.

Gray grades cream to charcoal. It is the neutral with contrast - useful where blue would be too much color but khaki would disappear into the wall.

Where this actually earns its place

Above a sideboard or a console. A meter-wide curve over a meter-and-a-half of furniture is the proportion the supplier photographs, and the arc of the board does something a straight bar cannot: it breaks the horizontal line of the surface below rather than repeating it.

Second, above a double bed. At 100 cm it matches a double headboard, and because the gradient is deepest at the bottom the weight of the color sits low, closer to the pillows - which reads better over a bed than a piece that is darkest at the top.

Third, a large blank wall where a gallery arrangement would be too busy. As boho wall decor this is one gesture, two fixings, and 120 cm of wall resolved - and the gradient gives it enough interest to survive being the only thing there.
