Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the materials, care and everyday use — no fine print.

What is it made of?

Natural pine wood with a clear matte lacquer. Every module is 3.5 in (9 cm) deep with a 0.6 in (1.5 cm) board, and the finish is sanded natural pine, lead free. It is solid timber rather than a veneered board, so the edges show real wood.

How much weight can each piece hold?

Up to 5 kg per piece. That covers plants, ceramics, candles, framed photographs and a short run of paperbacks. It is not built for a full row of hardbacks or anything you would call storage, which is what the slim 3.5 in depth is telling you.

How does it hang on the wall?

Every module has a keyhole hanger routed into the back, and the mounting hardware is in the box. Mark the screw positions, fit them to a fixing suited to your wall, then drop each piece on. No brackets are visible once it is up.

Are the six boxes all the same size?

No, and that is the point. Six rounded open boxes in mixed sizes are what let the set interlock into a stepped layout rather than repeating one rectangle at even spacing across the wall.

Are there any ledges in this set?

No. This is the only set in the range that is all boxes, with no straight ledges. If you want a mix of open runs and framed openings, the cube and ledge sets pair boxes with ledges instead.

How deep are the shelves?

3.5 in (9 cm), deliberately slim. That is enough to stand a small pot, prop a frame or hold a row of paperbacks without the shelf projecting into a hallway or catching shoulders in a narrow room.

Do the modules have a back panel?

No. They are open on the back, which is what makes them read as light on the wall rather than as boxes stuck to it. It also means anything smaller than the opening can pass straight through, so keep very small objects toward the front.

Will the colour match the photographs exactly?

The finish is warm honey pine. Natural pine varies in grain, knots and tone, and corner seams are visible on the modules. Two sets are never identical because the timber is not, and that variation is normal rather than a fault.

How do I clean and care for it?

Dust with a dry cloth and wipe with a barely damp one if needed, then dry it. Do not soak the timber or use solvents on the finish. Nothing needs oiling, waxing or resealing over the life of the shelves.

How is it packed and what if a piece arrives damaged?

In the box are the 6 shelf modules and one mounting hardware set, packed flat with the corners protected. Shipping is free and tracked. If a piece arrives split or chipped, send a photo within 30 days of delivery for a replacement or refund.

Would this interlocking box set work on a living room feature wall?

It's designed for exactly that: six pine modules that interlock into modular wall shelves in whatever stepped layout the wall needs, rather than repeating one rectangle at even spacing. Each box still frames a single object, like a plant or a photo, once it's hung.

Can I rearrange the six boxes once they're already hung?

You can, since each box mounts on its own keyhole hanger rather than a fixed frame. Because the six rounded open boxes are all different sizes, moving one changes how the whole layout interlocks, so it's worth planning the arrangement before you mark the wall.

Do all six boxes need to go up in one go?

No. Each box hangs on its own keyhole hanger, so a small apartment wall can start with two or three and add the rest later. Because the boxes are mixed sizes rather than one repeated rectangle, you can still interlock a partial layout without gaps looking wrong.

Is having six different-sized boxes better than a few uniform ones?

For an interlocking, stepped layout, yes: the six rounded boxes are all different sizes specifically so they can step across a wall rather than repeat one rectangle at even spacing. Uniform boxes would look tidier in a straight grid, but they can't interlock the way this mixed set does.

Is Houseland's all-box set worth it compared to a plain matched set?

If a stepped, interlocking layout is what you want, yes: Houseland sizes all six rounded boxes differently so they can do that, and still finishes them in solid timber with a keyhole hanger and mounting hardware included for every piece. A matched set of identical boxes can't step the same way.

What are the honest pros and cons of this all-box pine set?

Pros: solid timber construction, mixed sizes that let the boxes interlock into a stepped layout, and a finish that never needs oiling. Cons: there are no ledges in this set if you wanted an open connecting run, the open backs let small items pass through, and each box tops out at up to 11 lb (5 kg).

Will hanging six boxes leave six sets of screw holes in a rental wall?

It will. Each box mounts on its own keyhole hanger, which needs a screw fixed into a wall fixing suited to your wall, and there's no adhesive-mount option in this set. Plan on six small screw points rather than a drill-free install.

Is this a DIY job, or should I hire someone to hang all six boxes?

It's a DIY job. Every box already has a keyhole hanger and one mounting hardware set covers all six, so it's a matter of marking each screw position, fixing it into your wall type, and hanging the box; no brackets are visible once it is up.
