Stainless Steel Cutting Board, 304 Food Grade, Double Sided with Juice Groove
Estimated delivery: 3–10 days
Item details Materials, dimensions, what is in the box
A double-sided stainless steel cutting board in 304 food-grade steel: a juice groove on one side for carving, a flat prep surface on the other.
This is the surface you reach for when hygiene matters more than looks. Steel is non-porous, so juices, odours and raw-protein residue sit on top instead of soaking in, and the whole board goes into the dishwasher afterwards. There is nothing to oil, season or reseal, on day one or on day one thousand.
A 2023 North Dakota State University study in Environmental Science and Technology estimated that a polyethylene board sheds roughly 7.4 to 50.7 grams of microplastic per person per year. Steel sheds none. That is the comparison this board is built for: a hard, non porous cutting board in place of a soft one that wears away with every cut.
Knife work leaves fine lines that settle into an even matte patina, the same look a commercial prep counter takes on. They stay surface marks rather than open grooves, so nothing splits, nothing absorbs and nothing traps residue.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about the materials, care and everyday use — no fine print.
What grade of steel is the board made from?
This is a 304 stainless steel cutting board, the same grade used for kitchen sinks, commercial prep surfaces and cookware. It is uncoated and non-porous, so it is food safe as it comes, with no oiling, seasoning or sealing needed at any point.
Is it actually dishwasher safe?
Yes, both sizes. That is the main reason people choose a dishwasher safe cutting board in steel over wood. A full wash cycle clears residue and strong odours such as onion, garlic and fish, because there are no pores for them to soak into.
What are the two sizes?
Medium is 12 x 8 in (30.5 x 20.3 cm) and Large is 15.4 x 11 in (39 x 28 cm). Medium suits everyday prep and small counters; Large gives you room to carve a whole roast or a chicken without juices running off the edge.
Will it blunt my knives?
Steel is harder than wood or plastic, so it will dull an edge faster than an end-grain block will. Most owners keep this board for raw protein and carving, and a wood board for high-volume vegetable chopping, so each surface does the job it suits.
What is the juice groove for?
On a cutting board with juice groove, that channel runs the full perimeter of one side and catches juices while you carve or rest meat, so nothing spills onto the counter. The other side is completely flat for chopping, rolling dough or serving, which is the point of a double sided cutting board.
Is this the best cutting board for raw chicken?
It is built for exactly that job. Because the surface is non-porous and fully dishwasher safe, raw chicken residue cannot soak in and the whole board can be sanitised after every use, which a scored plastic or oiled wood board cannot match.
Does food slide around on a metal cutting board?
The surface is smoother than wood, so it can feel slick at first. Laying a damp cloth or a thin silicone mat underneath anchors the board completely and makes fine prep noticeably easier. Nothing needs to be fixed to the board itself.
Will it rust or stain?
304 stainless resists rust and staining in normal kitchen use. Acidic foods, salt and citrus will not pit it, and dishwasher detergent will not strip anything, because there is no coating or finish to strip in the first place.
How do I clean and store it?
Dishwasher, or hot soapy water and a cloth. Nothing needs oiling, waxing or drying face-down to stop warping. The slim profile means it stores upright in a narrow cabinet gap or flat in a drawer without taking a shelf.
How is it packed and shipped?
In the box is the board on its own, packed flat and protected on all edges inside a rigid carton. No oil, wax or maintenance kit is included because none is needed. Shipping is free and tracked, and if it arrives damaged, send a photo within 30 days of delivery for a replacement or refund.
Does a stainless steel cutting board shed microplastics into food?
No. The Houseland board is uncoated 304 food-grade steel, so there is no plastic in it to wear away. A 2023 North Dakota State University study estimated that a polyethylene board sheds roughly 7.4 to 50.7 grams of microplastic per person per year. Knife work on this board leaves fine surface lines instead, which settle into a matte patina and never flake into food.
What makes the Houseland stainless steel cutting board worth buying?
Three things you can check on any steel board: the grade, the build and the sides. Ours is 304 food-grade steel, stamped from a single uncoated piece, with a juice groove that runs the full perimeter of one side and a completely flat surface on the other. Both sizes go in the dishwasher, and nothing ever needs oiling, seasoning or sealing.
Which kitchen jobs is this board best at?
It is built for the messy jobs: raw meat, poultry and fish, and carving cooked roasts, because the non-porous steel gives juices and residue nowhere to soak in. The flat side also handles cheese and charcuterie, slicing citrus and tomatoes, and rolling and cutting pastry dough. For long sessions of vegetable chopping, a wood board is kinder to your knife edge.
Will the board still look good after years of use?
Yes, and it ages in a predictable way. Knife work leaves fine lines that settle into an even matte patina, the same look a commercial prep counter takes on. They stay surface marks rather than open grooves, so the board never splits, absorbs or traps residue, and there is nothing to reseal on day one or on day one thousand.
Is this a good cutting board for a small apartment kitchen?
Yes. The Medium size, 12 x 8 in, suits everyday prep on a small counter, and the slim profile stores upright in a narrow cabinet gap or flat in a drawer, so it never takes up a shelf. Because it is dishwasher safe and needs no oil, there is no drying rack or care kit to find room for either.
Can I use it at an outdoor grill, in an RV or on a boat?
Yes, those are some of the places it suits best. Steel does not warp when it gets wet, raw meat residue cannot soak into it, and it cleans up with hot soapy water when there is no dishwasher nearby. It is a good fit for outdoor grill and BBQ stations and for RV, boat and camper galleys.
What are the honest pros and cons of this 304 steel board?
Pros: it is non-porous, fully dishwasher safe, sheds no plastic and never needs oiling. Cons: steel is harder than wood, so it dulls a knife edge faster than an end-grain block; the surface is smoother, so a damp cloth underneath helps for fine chopping; and it is heavier than a plastic board of the same size.
Is there any coating or plastic layer on the board?
No. The board is single-piece stamped steel with no coating, film or finish on either side. That matters because a coated board can wear through with knife work, while this one has nothing to strip: acidic foods, salt, citrus and dishwasher detergent meet bare 304 steel every time.
Can I serve cheese or charcuterie straight on it?
Yes. The flat side is meant for chopping and serving, and the brushed silver steel looks at home on a table. It works as a cheese and charcuterie board or as a cold platter, and afterwards it goes straight into the dishwasher, so strong cheeses and cured meats leave no smell behind.
Can I roll out pastry dough on it?
Yes. Rolling and cutting pastry dough is one of the jobs the flat side is designed for, and the smooth steel surface is easy to scrape clean afterwards. Use the side without the juice groove, and lay a damp cloth underneath so the board stays still while you roll.
Is a stainless steel cutting board better than a plastic or wood one?
For raw protein, yes. Plastic gets scored by knives and sheds microplastic as it wears; wood has to be oiled and dried to stop warping. Steel is non-porous, goes in the dishwasher and needs no upkeep. Wood still wins for heavy vegetable chopping because it is gentler on knife edges, which is why many cooks keep one of each.
Is it a good board for weekly meal prep?
Yes. Meal prep usually means raw chicken, fish and vegetables in one session, and this board lets you trim and portion protein, wash it and go again without anything soaking in. The juice groove catches liquid while you portion into meal-prep containers, and the Large size gives you room to work in batches.
Does it work well in a shared or rental kitchen?
It is one of the easier boards to share. There is no oiling schedule for anyone to forget, it cannot be ruined by being left wet, and it goes in the dishwasher with everything else. It suits shared and rental kitchens as well as catering and pop-up setups.
Is the board heavy?
It has real weight, and that is deliberate: the weight is what keeps it still while you carve or chop. It is heavier than a plastic board of the same size, so when washing with soapy hands, hold it by the face rather than the rim. The Large size, 15.4 x 11 in, is the one to pick if you want the most working room.
Reviews
Item as described/pictured and useful, but not particularly thick at 1.1mm. fast delivery to aus within 7 days.
I wanted to use a stainless steel knife, and it seems to be okay. It's not as sharp as I thought it would be. I'm satisfied with it. It's good for making things like kimchi.
The cutting board is interesting, but I thought it would be a bit thicker... still happy with it.
Super thin and of good quality! Fingerprints do leave marks, but it can be cleaned and used without any problem.
So far, the product is really good
Next time I would order a slightly thicker board. It's really easy to clean, which is great.
The delivery is very fast and the product is light but excellent.
It's a good board, although the metal is a bit thin
If there are no scratches and the knives don't get dull, it will be great. I really hope so.
