An uncoated titanium frying pan with a hammered cooking surface and a tempered glass lid: no non-stick layer to scratch, flake or wear off into your food.

In an April 2025 Consumer Reports survey of 2,158 US adults, 65 percent said they were concerned about PFAS in non-stick cookware. Bare metal answers that question simply. There is no coating on this pan, so there is no PTFE, PFOA or PFAS on the cooking surface and nothing that can degrade onto the plate. The titanium you see is the titanium you cook on.

Bare metal rewards one short piece of technique. Heat the empty pan on medium for about two minutes, then flick in a few drops of water: when they bead and skate across the surface, it is ready. Add oil, wait until it thins and shimmers, then add your food and leave it alone. Once a crust forms it releases on its own, and eggs, fish fillets and chicken skin all lift cleanly.

The hammered texture adds rigidity and breaks up contact with the food, which is what makes a bare surface release well. Over months of cooking it takes on a soft, even patina, and a seasoned surface releases better than a brand new one.

Most pans sold as pure titanium cookware are aluminium bodies with a titanium-reinforced coating sprayed on top. This one is not: the surface you cook on is bare metal with nothing applied to it, which is why it belongs with cast iron and carbon steel rather than with coated titanium pans.

Titanium frying pan on an induction cooktop during preheat, water drops beading on the surface

In the Box

  • 1 x titanium frying pan in the size you chose
  • 1 x tempered glass lid
  • No seasoning oil or re-coating kit is needed

Please Note

  • Food and styling props shown in the photos are not included.
  • This is a bare metal pan, not a coated non-stick pan. Release depends on the two-minute preheat and a little fat, not on a coating.
  • Preheat on medium rather than full power, especially on induction. Overheating an empty pan discolours the surface.
  • Hand wash. Deglaze with warm water while the pan is still warm and the fond lifts straight out of the hammered dimples.
  • The surface darkens into an even patina with use. That is normal for bare metal and improves release.
  • Measurements refer to the cooking diameter and may differ by about 0.2 in.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the materials, care and everyday use — no fine print.

How does an uncoated pan release food without a non-stick layer?

Through heat and a little fat. Preheat on medium for about two minutes, add oil and let it shimmer, then add food and let a crust form. Eggs and fish lift cleanly off a properly heated surface. Those two minutes are the whole difference between sticking and releasing.

Is this really a non toxic frying pan?

There is no coating on the cooking surface, so there is no PTFE, PFOA or PFAS applied to it and nothing that can flake or degrade into food. What you are cooking on is bare titanium. That is the entire claim, and it does not depend on a layer wearing well.

Does it work on an induction cooktop?

Yes, and also on gas, electric and ceramic. On induction, preheat on medium rather than full power. Induction pushes heat in very fast, and medium is what gives the even surface temperature that clean release depends on.

What sizes are available and which should I pick?

10.2 in (26 cm) and 11 in (28 cm), measured across the cooking surface. The 26 cm suits eggs, one or two portions and smaller hobs. The 28 cm gives room to sear without crowding, which matters for steak, chicken and anything you want browned.

Is the lid included?

Yes. Every skillet pan with lid ships with a tempered glass lid sized to it, so you can watch a simmer or a steam without lifting it. There is no separate lid to buy and no size to work out.

Can I put it in the dishwasher?

Hand wash it instead. While the pan is still warm, pour in a little warm water, wait a minute, and the fond lifts straight out of the hammered dimples with a cloth. That takes less time than loading a dishwasher and keeps the finish even.

What utensils can I use?

Wood or silicone keep the hammered finish looking new. Metal will not destroy the pan the way it destroys a coating, because there is no coating to cut through, but it will leave visible marks on the surface over time.

Why has the surface changed colour?

Bare metal darkens into a soft, even patina as it is used, the same way carbon steel and cast iron do. It is not damage and it is not a coating breaking down. A patinated surface actually releases better than a brand new one.

How is titanium cookware different from stainless or cast iron?

It is lighter than cast iron and heats more evenly than thin stainless, with no seasoning ritual and no rust risk. Like both of them it is bare metal, so the technique is the same: preheat properly and let food release itself rather than forcing it.

Is a titanium skillet the same thing as this pan?

Yes. Skillet and frying pan describe the same shape, a wide shallow pan with sloped sides, and shops use the words interchangeably. If you have been comparing non toxic skillets, this sits in that group because the cooking surface carries no coating at all.

How does it ship and what if it arrives damaged?

In the box is the pan and its tempered glass lid, packed with the lid separated and braced inside a double-wall carton. Shipping is free and tracked. If anything arrives damaged, send a photo within 30 days of delivery for a replacement or refund.

Is the handle riveted or removable?

Riveted. The handle is metal and fixed to the body with rivets rather than a detachable design, and it pairs with a tempered glass lid sized to whichever pan you choose, small or large. Both sizes come with that lid included, so there is no separate one to match up.

Does this pan have any PFAS, PTFE or PFOA?

No. There is no coating at all, so there is no PTFE, PFOA or PFAS on the cooking surface and nothing that can degrade onto the plate. It is built for cooks who prefer bare metal to coatings; in an April 2025 Consumer Reports survey of 2,158 US adults, 65 percent said they were concerned about PFAS in non-stick cookware.

Is it suited to a gas stove?

Yes, gas ranges are one of the cooktops it is made for, along with induction, electric and ceramic. On any of them, preheat the empty pan on medium for about two minutes rather than full power, since that even heat-up is what gives clean release once oil and food go in.

Is it a good pan for a small apartment or a shared kitchen?

Yes. One pan covers induction, gas, electric and ceramic cooktops, so it moves with you between rentals and shared kitchens without needing a matching stove. It needs no seasoning oil or re-coating kit, so there is nothing extra to store, and a quick hand wash while it is still warm keeps it ready for the next person.

Is it solid titanium, and what makes it worth buying?

It is bare, uncoated titanium all the way through. Most pans sold as titanium cookware are aluminum bodies with a titanium-reinforced coating sprayed on top; this one has nothing sprayed on. It adds a hammered surface for rigidity and release, a tempered glass lid, and works on induction, gas, electric and ceramic.

Can I reduce and deglaze a pan sauce in it?

Yes, deglazing is exactly the kind of job it is built for. Once the food comes out, add a little warm water while the pan is still warm and the fond lifts straight out of the hammered dimples, so those browned bits go straight into a reduced sauce instead of staying stuck to bare metal.

Will it ever need replacing because the surface wears out?

Not for that reason. A coating can scratch, flake or wear off into food over time, and once it degrades the pan is done. Bare titanium has nothing applied to wear through, so a properly preheated pan releases food on technique rather than on a layer, and no seasoning oil or re-coating kit is ever needed.

Does the hammered texture actually help with cooking?

Yes, it is not just decorative. The hammered surface adds rigidity to the pan and breaks up contact between the metal and the food, which is what lets a bare surface release well once it is properly preheated. Over months of use it also takes on a soft, even patina that releases even better than a new pan.

What are the honest pros and cons of an uncoated titanium pan?

Pros: no PTFE, PFOA or PFAS on the surface, it works on induction, gas, electric and ceramic, and there is nothing to scratch off or re-coat over time. Cons: release depends on a two-minute preheat rather than a coating, it needs hand washing instead of a dishwasher, and overheating an empty pan discolors the surface.

A well-made product that meets all the expected functionalities.

All good but be careful with heating it too quickly at high temperature as the flat bottom will inevitably bend a bit which is not easy to revert. overall, a good product at a good price.
