Above a sofa, there usually is one behind the furniture, and the cord disappears. Above a bed or on a chimney breast, there usually is not, and the options are a visible cable, a channel cut into the plaster, or hanging the piece lower than the composition wants so it can reach.
Battery removes that entire conversation. The panel hangs where it looks right.
The cost is cells and the small ritual of changing them. If a piece runs a couple of hours an evening on a low setting, that is an infrequent job. If it is on from dusk to bedtime at full output, it is not.
Is the battery version as bright?
At the settings most people use, the difference is not noticeable. At full output, a mains-fed strip can sustain more than a battery pack will for long.
That matters less than it sounds, because a backlit panel is not a room light. Its job is to glow behind a textured surface, and full brightness usually washes out the very relief you bought it for. Most owners find their setting within the first week and leave it there, and it is rarely near the top.
What genuinely differs is consistency over time. Mains output does not change. Battery output falls gradually as cells deplete, and the fall is slow enough that you notice it as the room looking flat rather than as the light dimming.
Practical answer: judge brightness at the level you will actually use, not at maximum in a shop photograph.
There is a second brightness question nobody asks until the piece is up: how bright the wall behind it is. A panel throwing light onto a white wall reads brighter than the same panel on a deep grey one, because most of what you see is reflected rather than direct. If the wall is dark, expect to run the setting higher, and factor that into the battery decision.

The reflection row is the one people underestimate. A framed print lit from two sides by sconces will show one or both fittings in the glass from most seating positions. Non-reflective glazing helps and costs more than the frame did.
If you want light to read by, sconces. If you want the wall to have depth after dark, a lit panel.

Colour temperature does more than brightness
2700K is warm white — the colour of a traditional filament lamp. It flatters skin, timber and plaster, and it reads as evening light.
Anything above about 3500K starts to read as functional rather than atmospheric, and on a textured wall it flattens the surface because cool light produces less shadow contrast on shallow relief.

A 59 in panel is awkward for one person, and most of the damage done to pieces like this happens in the ten seconds between lifting and seating.
- Two people if possible. One holds, one guides onto the bracket. If you are alone, rest the bottom edge on something soft at the right height and pivot it up rather than lifting it clear.
- Protect the wall. A long piece swung into position scuffs paint with its corners. A folded towel on the sofa back below saves both the panel and the wall.
- Seat it fully. Hook over, then pull down gently until it stops. A partially seated bracket holds fine until something knocks it.
- Check level after loading, not before. A bracket-hung panel can shift a degree as it settles onto the hook.

Living with each one
Plug-in: nothing to maintain. The one recurring annoyance is the cord, and it is worth solving properly on day one — behind furniture, down a corner, or in a cover matched to the wall colour. A diagonal cable across open wall is the thing people stop seeing and visitors do not.
Keep the adapter somewhere air reaches it rather than pressed behind a sofa cushion.
Battery: nothing to hide. The recurring job is cells, and the way to make it infrequent is to run it dimmed and switch it off overnight rather than leaving it on.
Either way the dust routine is the same: a soft dry cloth on the textured face, occasionally, and never anything damp on a matte hand-applied surface.
One habit worth building either way: switch it off at the wall or on the remote rather than leaving it on overnight. It saves cells on a battery unit, and on a plug-in one it keeps the piece feeling like something you turn on in the evening rather than a fitting that is always there. Lighting that is always on stops being noticed.
What I would choose
Battery if the wall has no socket behind furniture, which covers most bedrooms and most chimney breasts. Plug-in if it does, which covers most sofas.
And I would not add sconces to a lit panel. One light source on a wall reads as intentional; three read as a lighting scheme nobody planned. If the room needs more light, put it at a different height — table lamps beside the sofa — where it does not compete at panel level.
