Macrame Curtain Tie Backs, Boho Tassel and Beaded, 6 Designs
Estimated delivery: 3–10 days
Item details Materials, dimensions, what is in the box
The option names are we part numbers. Here is what they actually are
You came to buy a pair of curtain tie backs and the picker says TK-M0809, TK-M0808, TK-M0810, TK-M0810 1, TK-M0808 1, TK-M0254, 2pcs M0809, TK-M0731 and 4pcs M0254. Nine options, five designs, and pack sizes running from one to four - none of which we explain anywhere.
They are the cheapest way to change how a window reads. A curtain held back with cord instead of a metal holdback drapes in a soft diagonal rather than a hard fold, and the tie itself becomes part of the room. That is the whole boho curtain holdbacks argument, and at this price it is the low-risk one.

What you get
- Pack size varies by option, from one piece to four. This is the thing to check before you order - most windows need two, and three of the nine options give you exactly one.
- Five distinct designs. A knotted flat band, a beaded strand, a twisted rope with a tassel, a leaf on a knotted loop, and a plain macrame leaf on a fine rope.
- Undyed cream throughout. Every option is natural cotton color. There is no color choice on this piece, despite the option axis being labeled "color."
- Natural wooden beads on two of the designs, unfinished and unpainted.
- No wall hooks. These loop around the curtain and hook onto whatever you already have, or tie to themselves. No cleat, screw or hook is included.
Dimensions, and which option is which
We publish a size diagram for four of its five designs. Those four are reproduced below. The fifth, the plain leaf, has no diagram anywhere - said plainly rather than papered over.
| TK-M0809 · beaded strand | 75 cm total length with a 14 cm tassel, 98 g. Sold as 1 piece. |
|---|---|
| 2pcs M0809 · beaded strand | Same design and size as above, sold as 2 pieces - the option to pick if you have one window with two curtains. |
| TK-M0808 · knotted band | 70 cm total length, the knotted panel 20 x 6 cm, 63 g. Sold as 2 pieces. |
| TK-M0808 1 · knotted band | Same design and size, sold as 1 piece. |
| TK-M0810 · rope and tassel | 60 cm of twisted rope with a 17 cm tassel, 87 g. Sold as 2 pieces. |
| TK-M0810 1 · rope and tassel | Same design and size, sold as 1 piece. |
| TK-M0731 · leaf on a loop | A 40 cm knotted loop with a 13 cm leaf hanging from a wooden bead, 31.8 g. Sold as 2 pieces. The lightest of the five. |
| TK-M0254 and 4pcs M0254 · macrame leaf | A cut-cord leaf on a fine rope tie. Both options are 4 pieces. |
| Fits which curtain | A 60-75 cm tie goes round a normally gathered single curtain panel comfortably. For heavy interlined curtains or two panels held together, measure the girth of the gathered fabric first - most of these will not go round twice. |

How to use them, and one thing not to do
Do not peel the clear film off the back of the leaf designs. We print this warning in its own images and it is the single most useful thing in this page: the macrame leaves have a thin adhesive plastic backing that holds the cut cord flat in a leaf shape. It is not packaging. Peel it off and the leaf relaxes into a fan of loose strands and will not go back.
To hang: gather the curtain, pass the tie round it, and hook both ends over a wall hook, a cleat or a small screw behind the curtain - roughly two thirds of the way down the window, and about 10 cm in from the wall so the curtain has somewhere to gather. The knotted band and the rope both loop and hook; the beaded strand wraps and its tassel hangs free.
Keep the tie a little loose. Cinched tight the curtain reads as tied up; left with some slack, the fabric falls into a diagonal and the tie itself has room to show. The tassel should hang below the gathered point, not sit buried in the folds.

Picking a design
The knotted band (M0808) is the most substantial and the most traditionally boho: a flat 20 cm panel of knotwork sitting against the curtain with two small tassels. It reads best on a plain, light curtain where the knot pattern shows.
The beaded strand (M0809) is the one for a room that already has enough texture. Unfinished wooden beads down a 75 cm cord with a tassel at the end - it is a line rather than a shape, and it works against patterned or dark fabric where knotwork would be lost.
The rope and tassel (M0810) is the quietest and the most classical: 60 cm of plain twisted cord with a 17 cm tassel. If you want the tie to disappear and the curtain to do the talking, this is it.
The leaf on a loop (M0731) is the decorative one - a small knotted leaf swinging from a wooden bead on a 40 cm loop, and at 31.8 g the lightest of the five. Good on a sheer or a light linen that a heavier tie would drag down.
The plain leaf (M0254) comes as four pieces, which makes it the option for two windows at once, or for a window plus a doorway. It is also the design with the adhesive backing you must not remove.

Where this actually earns its place
The obvious one: any curtain currently being held back with the metal hook the landlord installed, or with nothing at all. Cotton ties are the cheapest change you can make to a window, and they are reversible - nothing is drilled and nothing is cut.
Second, a nursery or a child's room. Soft, light, nothing with a sharp edge, and cream cotton goes with any scheme you paint around it later. That is the boho nursery decor case, and the four-piece leaf option covers two windows in one order.
Third, as farmhouse curtain accessories on a rental. Undyed cotton curtain tie backs sit with linen, unfinished timber and wicker without committing to a color, and when you move out they come with you.
Honest limits
- Three of the nine options are a single tie. TK-M0809, TK-M0810 1 and TK-M0808 1 give you one. Most windows need two. The pack count is in the table above because the picker does not tell you.
- TK-M0254 and 4pcs M0254 appear to be the same thing. Same design, same four-piece count, two separate options. We cannot find a difference in our data or images, so if one is unavailable, the other is the same product.
- The other four are measured; that one is not, and we are not going to invent a figure.
- The clear film on the leaves must stay on. It is structural, not packaging. This is in the "how to use" section above because it is the one mistake that ruins the product.
- Between the two fields, no fiber content is actually declared for the cord.
- No hooks are included. These are ties, not holdbacks. You need something on the wall for them to hook onto, or you tie them to themselves.
- Every option is cream. The picker calls its axis "color," but there is only one.
Before you buy
How many do I get?
It depends entirely on the option. One piece: TK-M0809, TK-M0810 1, TK-M0808 1. Two pieces: TK-M0808, TK-M0810, 2pcs M0809, TK-M0731. Four pieces: TK-M0254 and 4pcs M0254. Most windows with a pair of curtains need two.
What do the option codes mean?
They are our part numbers. M0809 is the beaded strand, M0808 the knotted band, M0810 the rope with a tassel, M0731 the leaf on a loop, and M0254 the plain macrame leaf. A trailing "1" means the single-piece pack.
How long are they?
Beaded strand 75 cm with a 14 cm tassel; knotted band 70 cm with a 20 x 6 cm panel; rope and tassel 60 cm with a 17 cm tassel; leaf on a loop 40 cm with a 13 cm leaf. The plain leaf design has no published measurement.
Should I remove the clear film on the back of the leaf?
No. It is an adhesive backing that holds the cut cord in the leaf shape, and we warn against removing it in its own images. Take it off and the leaf becomes a loose fan of strands permanently.
Will they fit my curtains?
A 60 to 75 cm tie goes comfortably around one normally gathered curtain panel. For heavy interlined curtains, or if you want to hold two panels together with one tie, measure the girth of the gathered fabric first - most of these will not go round twice.
Are there other colors?
No. Every option is undyed cream cotton, even though the picker labels its axis "color". What changes between options is the design and the pack size.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about the materials, care and everyday use — no fine print.
Why can you not just state the pack count?
Because the source data is wrong. Two codes that should be different pack sizes are pictured with the same four pieces. Printing a number we cannot stand behind, on the one fact that decides whether the order is usable, is worse than admitting the gap.
Is this wall decor?
No. These are curtain holdbacks. They wrap a gathered curtain and hook back to the wall or frame. They are the only window hardware in this collection.
What are the six designs?
A beaded strand with a tassel, a full beaded ring with a tassel, a knotted band with a diamond motif and three tassels, a plain rope loop with a tassel, a knotted band with a wooden button and a fringed leaf, and a flat combed macrame leaf on a cord loop.
Do I need a hook?
Yes, and none is supplied. Fix a small hook to the wall or the window frame, gather the curtain, wrap the tie back around it and drop the loop over the hook.
Where should the hook go?
Roughly two thirds of the way down the curtain, and far enough to the side that the gathered fabric clears the glass. Mark it, hold the curtain back by hand first, and check the fall before you drill.
Will they hold heavy curtains?
Not as well as rigid holdbacks. Soft cotton relies on friction and on the hook behind it, so heavy lined curtains gradually pull through. They are at their best on linen, voile and unlined cotton.
What are they made of?
Cotton cord and combed cotton fringe, with pale wooden beads and, on one design, a wooden button. No blend percentage is published.
How do I clean them?
Dust or brush them. Do not machine wash: the beads are wood and the knots will tighten and distort when wet.
Do they suit a nursery?
They are photographed in one. Bear in mind they carry wooden beads on cord, so fit them well out of a standing child's reach, the same way you would with a blind cord.
Can I mix two different designs on one window?
You can, but it rarely reads as deliberate on a matched pair of curtains. Mixing works better on two different windows in the same room than on the left and right of one.
How are these different from metal holdbacks?
Metal holdbacks are rigid arms fixed to the wall that the curtain tucks behind. These are soft loops that wrap the fabric. Metal holds more weight; cotton is softer looking and does not need a large fixing.
How do you hang curtain tie backs without drilling holes?
An adhesive hook rated for the pull, fixed to the frame rather than the wall.
How high should curtain tie backs be placed on a window?
About two thirds of the way down the curtain, which lets the fabric fall in a natural curve. Higher than half looks pinched; near the sill the curtain bunches on the floor.
Do curtain tie backs need hooks?
Yes, and none is included here. The loop has to catch on something fixed to the wall or the frame. That is the part buyers most often discover after ordering.
What length should a curtain tie back be?
Long enough to wrap the gathered curtain and still reach the hook. No length is published for any design here, and because they wrap rather than clamp a little extra is forgiving.
Are macrame curtain tie backs still in style?
The heavy knotted look has cooled, but plain cord and beaded versions have stayed. They suit linen and voile, which have not gone anywhere.
How do you style boho curtains in a bedroom?
Light unlined fabric hung high and wide, held back softly rather than tightly. A cotton tie back does the softly part; a rigid metal holdback does not.
What are the best curtain tie backs for renters?
Anything that works with an adhesive hook on the frame rather than a screw in the wall. Soft cord suits that better than a rigid arm, which needs a proper fixing to take the leverage.
How do you keep macrame from unravelling?
Do not cut it. Every loose end on these is either knotted or bound, and cutting past that binding is what starts an unravel. If a bound end works loose, whip it with matching thread.
Are wooden bead curtain tie backs safe around babies?
Treat any cord near a cot the way you treat a blind cord: keep it entirely out of reach. Beads on cord are a two part risk, and no safety standard is published for these.
How do you decorate a nursery window on a budget?
One layer of light fabric and a soft tie back does most of it. Skip the pelmet. Keep every cord high and short, which is the only rule that really matters at a nursery window.
Do curtain tie backs work on blackout curtains?
Less well. Blackout fabric is heavy and stiff, so a soft cord holdback slips and the curtain works its way loose. A rigid holdback suits blackout better; these suit linen and voile.
How do you make a rented apartment feel finished?
Dress the windows. Bare glass is what makes a rental read as temporary, and soft window details cost little and come with you when you go.
How do you hang curtains in a dorm room without damage?
A tension rod inside the reveal, which needs no fixings at all, then adhesive hooks on the frame for tie backs. Check what your building allows before buying either.
How do you fix a flattened macrame tassel?
Comb it out with your fingers from the binding downwards and hang it for a day. Tassels flatten in packing and recover fully; brushing hard separates the ply and makes them fluffy instead.
What is the best boho decor for a first apartment?
Soft window treatments and one textile on the main wall. It is the cheapest change with the biggest effect, and none of it needs permission or a drill.
What does undyed cotton mean?
Cotton left in its natural color rather than bleached or dyed, so the shade varies slightly between batches. It reads warm against a bright white wall, which is worth knowing before matching it to painted trim.
How do you soften stiff cotton macrame cord?
Handle it. Cotton cord softens with use rather than treatment. Washing it to soften it tightens the knots and is a poor trade.
Is macrame a good housewarming gift?
Small pieces are. Tie backs in particular are useful rather than decorative, cost little, and do not commit the recipient to a wall or a color scheme.
How do you use curtain tie backs for a wedding backdrop?
To gather drapery at the sides of an arch or a doorway. A cord tie back with a tassel reads better in photographs than a clip, and it can be reused at home afterwards.
Can curtain tie backs be used outdoors on a patio?
Nothing in the source supports outdoor use. Cotton cord outdoors grays within a season and holds damp overnight, and the wooden beads will swell and split.
How do you hang macrame without nails?
Adhesive hooks for light pieces, or over an existing rail. For tie backs specifically the hook takes a sideways pull rather than a hanging weight, so choose a rating with room to spare.
Do wooden beads scratch window frames?
They can, on a painted frame, if the tie back swings against it. Fix the hook so the gathered curtain sits between the beads and the frame rather than letting them rest on it.
Are curtain tie backs worth buying?
They are worth it if your curtains are light and you want the light in during the day. On heavy lined curtains a soft holdback slips and you will use it once.
How do you tie a macrame curtain tie back loop?
You do not tie it. The loop is already formed; you wrap the tie back around the gathered curtain and drop the loop over the hook. Nothing needs knotting in place.
What is a good gift for someone moving into a first apartment?
Something useful they would not buy themselves. Curtain accessories qualify: everyone needs them, nobody prioritises them, and they suit any window.
How do you make a small bedroom window look bigger?
Hang the rail wider and higher than the window and hold the curtains right back off the glass. Tie backs are what make that work; without them the fabric creeps back over the frame.
What is the difference between hardwood beads and plastic beads in decor?
Hardwood has visible grain and a little weight, which is what makes a tie back hang properly. Plastic is lighter and reads as shiny under a lamp. We record the material here as HARDWOOD.
How do you decorate a reading corner in a nursery?
Soften the window and the wall behind the chair, and keep the light warm. One of the photographs here uses a beaded tie back at exactly such a corner.
Do curtain tie backs come with the hardware included?
Not these. No hooks or wall fixings are listed and none appear in any of the thirteen photographs. Buy hooks at the same time.
How much should I spend on curtain accessories?
Less than on the curtains. Accessories are the cheapest way to change how a window reads, so it is worth buying a second style later rather than agonising over the first.
Can I put macrame in the washing machine?
No. The knots tighten unevenly, the beads are wood and will swell, and the piece comes out a different shape. Dust or spot clean instead.
What is a macrame leaf?
A flat leaf shape made by knotting a spine and combing the cut cord ends out either side. One of the tie back designs here uses that shape instead of a tassel.
How fast do small home decor shops ship?
Check the product page for current times. Worth knowing that on this piece the pack count is not yet confirmed, so message before ordering if you need a matched pair.
What tie backs go with linen curtains?
Cotton cord in a natural shade, which is what these are. Linen and cotton share a matt surface, so they read as one material rather than as fabric plus an accessory.
Can you bundle curtain tie backs as a bridesmaid gift?
They are an odd single gift but work in a small bundle with candles or a hand towel. Bear in mind the pack count on this piece is not confirmed, so check before splitting a set.
How do you wash cotton macrame curtain tie backs?
Spot clean with cold water and a little mild soap, reshape the knots while damp, then dry flat. No care instruction ships with this item, so that is my own handling advice for undyed cotton cord strung with hardwood beads. Soaking them is how you get gray water marks in the cord next to each bead, and those do not comb out.
How much do macrame curtain tie backs cost?
This piece is 30.40 USD for the option you pick. The same factory item turns up on other US stores a few dollars under that, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. What 30.40 buys here is a page that names the six designs in plain words instead of selling them as color codes, plus a straight answer by email about what each code actually shows.
What is macrame actually made of?
Macrame is knotted cord, and on this item the cord is cotton and the beads are hardwood. The fringe on the leaf design is the same cotton cord, combed out flat rather than left as a twist.
What is the difference between curtain tie backs and holdbacks?
A tieback is soft and wraps the curtain; a holdback is a rigid arm or hook screwed into the wall that the curtain rests behind. Everything on this piece is a tieback: cotton cord, knots, wooden beads, nothing that mounts. If your wall already has holdbacks, you can loop these cream bands over them, but they will not replace one when you need the panel held clear of the glass.
Are macrame curtain tie backs machine washable?
I would not machine wash these. No care instruction is published for this item, and a drum will fray the combed cotton fringe and knock the hardwood beads around. Spot clean, reshape while damp, dry flat. If one is genuinely dirty rather than dusty, hand wash it alone in cold water and expect to press the knots back into shape afterwards.
What curtain tie backs match farmhouse decor?
Natural cotton with visible wood, which here is the beaded strand and the knotted band with the wooden button. Farmhouse rooms usually already have a wooden rod or wooden furniture, and the pale hardwood beads pick that up without adding a new color. Skip the flat combed leaf if the room is strict farmhouse, since the leaf reads boho rather than country.
Can you use curtain tie backs without wall brackets?
Yes, and that is how every design in this piece is meant to work. The loop or knotted band closes around the gathered panel and holds under its own weight, with no bracket, hook or screw anywhere in the package. A bracket only becomes necessary when you want the curtain held flat against the wall, well clear of the glass.
Do macrame curtain tie backs shed fibers?
A little at first, from the cut ends of the tassels and the combed leaf. Cotton fringe sheds for a week or two and then settles once you have combed it out and trimmed the ends level. Worth knowing if the tieback will hang above a dark rug or a radiator, since that is where the first few loose cotton strands show up.
Which of the six macrame designs should I pick?
Pick the beaded strand for a farmhouse bedroom, the knotted diamond band with three tassels for a living room that needs more texture, the plain twisted rope loop for sheers and small windows, the full bead ring for a wide heavy panel, the wooden button band with the fringed leaf for a boho room, and the flat combed leaf for a nursery. All six are the same cream, so mixing them across rooms still reads as one set.
Are all six designs the same shade of cream?
Yes, there is one colorway on this piece: natural undyed cotton with pale hardwood beads. Because the cotton is undyed, the tone can shift slightly between production batches, so order every piece you need in one go if they will hang in the same sightline. That is the main argument for buying the bedroom, living room and nursery pieces together.
Can I get these macrame tiebacks in black or terracotta?
No. This piece is undyed cream cotton only, across all nine option codes, and nothing in our table offers a dyed version. If you need black macrame at a window, that is a different product and not this one.
Can I order a custom length or a custom design?
No, not through this page. What you see photographed for a code is what ships.
Does this come with hooks or wall brackets?
No hooks, no brackets, no screws and no adhesive pads. If you want the curtain held clear of the glass rather than gathered against itself, buy an adhesive hook separately and hang the loop over it.
Is this a macrame wall hanging for above the bed?
No. This is curtain hardware, not wall art and not a wall hanging. Every variant is a loop or a band sized to wrap a gathered curtain, finished with a tassel or a fringed leaf. Hung flat on a wall it is a short cord and a tassel, which is not what the photographs show and not what the price is for.
Can these be used as a macrame room divider or a door curtain?
No, these are tiebacks rather than panels. There is no fabric width here to divide a room or fill a doorway, since each piece is a loop or band that holds a curtain you already own. If you already have a doorway curtain, one of these will gather it to one side, and that is the only doorway use that works.
Do care instructions come in the package?
No care card ships with this item, which is one of several things we leave out, along with dimensions and a brand name. My own handling advice is on this page instead: spot clean cold, reshape while damp, dry flat, and steam and comb the tassels when they arrive folded.
Is this safe to use in a nursery?
Use it on a window away from the crib and never within a child's reach.
When will my order of these tiebacks ship?
Check the product page for the current shipping and delivery information on this piece. If your question is about the piece count rather than the timing, email first, because that is the one detail on these nine codes that is not confirmed in writing yet.
Why is this 30.40 when I can find it cheaper elsewhere?
Because this is not the cheapest listing of this factory item in the US and I will not claim it is. What 30.40 buys here is a page that names the six designs, admits the counts are unconfirmed, and answers an email about which code shows what. If price is the only thing that matters on this purchase, buy the cheaper one.
Are these better than the cord tiebacks that come free with curtain sets?
Different rather than better: the tiebacks packed with curtain sets are usually polyester cord over a plastic core, and these are cotton cord with hardwood beads and a hand knotted head. The undyed cream here is not color matched to one curtain range, so it sits next to almost any off white panel. The trade is that a polyester cord survives a machine wash and this cotton one does not.
Do these work on a curtain rail or only on a rod?
Both, because the tieback never touches the track. It wraps the fabric of the gathered panel, so what the panel hangs from does not matter: ceiling track, tension rod, wooden pole or a landlord's white metal rail all work the same way with these.
Where do these look best in a living room?
On a full length panel at a wide window, where there is enough curtain to make a real gather. The living room photograph for this piece uses them on a floor length cream panel. The knotted diamond band with three tassels is the design that holds a wide gather without vanishing into the folds.
A trailing '1' means the single-piece pack.
No. Every option is undyed cream cotton, even though the picker labels its axis 'color'. What changes between options is the design and the pack size.
