Item details Materials, dimensions, what is in the box

The rod in the photographs is not in the box

Start there, because it is the thing that ruins the first ten minutes. Every image of this curtain shows it hanging from a wooden pole. Our package contents read, in its own words, "1 x tapestry (not include wooden stick)." You are buying the textile. The rod, the brackets and the screws are yours to supply.

What you do get is a full-height macrame door curtain in cream cotton rope: a dense band of knotwork across the top, dropping into long loose strands that run to the floor and finish in tied ends. It is knotted, not woven and not printed - we record the craft as tatting and the technique as handmade, and the close photograph below shows the knots plainly.

It is not a privacy screen and it does not block light. Loose cord filters a doorway the way a beaded curtain does, softening the opening and marking a threshold while letting air and light straight through. That is the whole macrame curtain for doorway proposition, and it is why it also works as a wedding backdrop - it photographs as texture against light rather than as a wall.

The curtain hung full length and tied back at one side

What you get

  • A knotted header with a row of loops. The top edge is finished with cord loops that slide onto a pole - which is how it hangs, and why the pole matters.
  • Long loose strands below the knotwork, finished with knotted ends. No hem, no weight bar.
  • Undyed cream cotton rope throughout. No color choice on this piece.
  • No rod, no brackets, no fixings. Stated explicitly by us, and worth reading twice.

Dimensions, and which pattern comes with which size

This is the unusual part of this product, and nobody explains it: the knot pattern changes with the size. These are not one design offered in three widths - each size is a separate piece of work with its own header. Choose by the photograph as much as by the measurement.

100 x 200 cm The tallest header. A deep band of linked diamonds across the top, then long strands that hang free and split in the middle so the panel can be parted or tied back.
95 x 200 cm A wider, shallower knotted band with a more open lattice, and correspondingly more strand length below it. The lightest-looking of the two.
90 x 180 cm Current size options are 85 x 200, 95 x 200, 100 x 200, 100 x 220 and 105 x 105 cm. If you need this exact size, message us before ordering rather than assuming.
Standard interior doorway About 80 x 200 cm. The 95 and 100 cm widths give 15-20 cm of overlap, which is what you want - a curtain cut to the exact opening hangs flat and looks mean.
Hanging height The length is measured from the top of the header, not from the rod. Mount the pole so the strand ends just brush the floor, or stop them 2 cm clear of it.

How to hang it

You will need a rod, two brackets and the fixings for your wall. Buy the pole after the curtain arrives, not before - the header loops are a fixed size and no rod diameter is published, so measure them first.

Mount the brackets above the door frame rather than inside the reveal. A doorway curtain hung inside the opening catches on the frame every time someone walks through; hung 10-15 cm above and wider than the opening, it clears the architrave and the strands part cleanly.

Get the drop right at the rod, because there is no hem to take up. The strands end in knots and cannot be shortened without unpicking them. Hang the rod so the ends brush the floor or stop just short of it; too long and the curtain drags and tangles, too short and it reads as a valance.

For a doorway in daily use, tie the panel back to one side with a cord tie rather than parting it each time - that is how we photograph it, and it stops the strands from working themselves into knots at the bottom.

As a room divider or a wedding backdrop, hang it clear of a wall so light comes through from behind. Cord curtains do very little against a solid surface and a great deal with light behind them.

Picking a size

For a standard 80 cm interior doorway, 95 x 200 cm is the sensible default: enough overlap to hang with body, and the more open header, which suits a doorway where you want light through.

100 x 200 cm is the one to choose when the curtain is the point rather than the doorway - a wider opening, an alcove, a room divider, or a backdrop. The deeper diamond header gives it more weight at the top and reads better from a distance.

If your opening is taller than 200 cm, neither will reach the floor. Measure from where the rod will sit down to the floor before ordering, and remember the 200 cm is the fabric, not the fabric plus the rod height.

Where this actually earns its place

The doorway with no door: a pantry arch, a bedroom without a fitted door, a studio corner. A cord curtain marks the threshold without closing it, which is exactly what those openings need and what a solid curtain gets wrong. That is the boho door curtain case.

Second, as a macrame room divider in an open-plan room - across the end of a bed alcove, between a work corner and a living area. It reads as a boundary without cutting the light, and it takes a fraction of the space of a screen.

Third, events. As a backdrop behind a table or an arch it photographs beautifully against daylight, and it packs down to nothing. A plain macrame curtain in front of a window is the fourth use: not for privacy, but for texture against the light.

Honest limits

  • No rod is included. We say so plainly and every photograph shows one anyway. Budget for a pole, two brackets and wall fixings.
  • It gives no privacy and blocks no light. Open cord at 60 gsm. If you need a door, this is not one.
  • The pattern is tied to the size. You are not picking a size of one design; each size is a different header. Look at the photographs before you pick a measurement.
  • Ask before you order that one.
  • Long loose strands tangle. Especially in a doorway in daily use. Tie it back rather than pushing through it, and expect to comb the ends occasionally.

Before you buy

Does it come with a rod?

No. Our package contents read "1 x tapestry (not include wooden stick)." Every photograph shows a pole; none of them is included. You will also need brackets and wall fixings.

Which size fits a normal doorway?

A standard interior doorway is about 80 x 200 cm. The 95 x 200 cm panel gives roughly 15 cm of overlap, which is what makes a cord curtain hang with body instead of flat. Mount the rod above the frame, not inside the reveal.

Is the pattern the same on every size?

No, and this is the thing to check. Each size has its own knotwork header - the 100 cm has a deep band of linked diamonds, the 95 cm a wider, more open lattice. Pick by the photograph as well as the measurement.

Will it give me privacy?

No. It is open cord at 60 gsm: it filters and softens a doorway, marks a threshold and looks good against light, but you can see through it and it stops no light at all.

Is it cotton?

Polyester and cotton blend; no percentage specified. Its description text says cotton rope.

Can I shorten it?

Not easily. The strands end in tied knots rather than a hem, so shortening means unpicking and re-tying every one. Set the drop at the rod instead - hang it so the ends brush the floor or stop a couple of centimeters clear.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the materials, care and everyday use — no fine print.

Why does every option end in 200X230cm?

Because we ha appended its packaging size to every value. Read the first measurement, not the last.

Does it work as a room divider?

Visually, yes. It marks the boundary and filters light while leaving both spaces open. It does not block sound, draughts or cooking smells, so treat it as a soft partition.

How do I hang it?

On its wooden rod, with two brackets or hooks at the ends. The rod is included; brackets, hooks and screws are not, and none appear in the photographs.

Can I tie it back?

Yes, and two of our photographs do exactly that. Gathering it to one side turns it from a screen into a soft frame for the opening.

What is it made of?

Cord with a clear three ply twist, on a wooden rod. The seller describes it as hand-woven; that is the seller's description rather than a claim we can verify.

How do I clean it?

Dust it or vacuum it on low suction. Do not wash a full length knotted curtain: it becomes very heavy wet, stretches under its own weight and takes days to dry evenly.

Will it yellow in sunlight?

Undyed fiber warms in tone in strong direct sun over time, and a polyester and cotton blend is no exception. Nothing in the source addresses light fastness, so a bright south facing opening is the harder placement.

Can I use it as a wedding backdrop?

One of our photographs does. At 200 to 220 cm of drop it reads at full height behind a couple, and it photographs well because the knot pattern catches light without going flat.

Will it keep a room warmer?

No. It is open cord. It does nothing for draughts or heat, and anything that suggests otherwise is guessing.

What wall art should I put in my living room?

Something sized to the furniture rather than the wall. That said, this product is a doorway curtain rather than wall art, and it earns its place in a living room as a room divider or across an archway.

Is a tapestry a good way to cover a big blank wall?

It covers area cheaply, which is the argument for it. This piece is designed to hang in an opening rather than flat on a wall, and against a wall the loose cords will move every time someone passes.

What can I hang on a wall instead of a framed picture?

Textiles, and for an opening rather than a wall, a curtain like this one. Both give you surface and softness where a frame gives you an image behind glass.

What backdrop should I use for party photos?

Something with visible texture at full height. A 200 cm macrame curtain reads at standing height behind people and the knotwork catches light rather than going flat under a flash.

What large wall art works over a couch?

Landscape and matt. This is a full length curtain rather than wall art, so it is the wrong shape for above a couch; one of the wide swags in this collection suits that better.

What curtain can I hang in a doorway with no door?

A macrame curtain is the usual answer: it marks the opening, filters light and lets air and people through. Measure the opening rather than a door leaf, and go slightly wider so it gathers.

How do I divide a room without building a wall?

Hang something in the line where the wall would be. A full length open curtain divides visually while keeping both sides light, which is what a solid partition takes away.

How do I decorate a rental apartment without damaging it?

Work in the openings rather than on the walls. A tension rod in a doorway needs no fixings at all, which makes a door curtain one of the few genuinely damage free changes available.

What is fiber art and how do people use it at home?

Art made from textile rather than paint or print: knotted, woven or wound. At home it is used where softness and sound matter, which is why it turns up on bedroom walls and in doorways more than in kitchens.

What wall piece makes a boho bedroom look finished?

Usually the doorway rather than the wall. A bedroom with a dressed opening reads finished in a way that adding a third wall piece does not.

What is a woven wall hanging?

One made on a loom, with threads crossing. This is knotted rather than woven, which is a different technique: the pattern comes from the knots and the surface stands proud rather than lying flat.

Is macrame still in style?

In doorways and openings, yes, more than on walls. The knotted curtain has outlasted the knotted wall hanging because it does a job rather than only decorating.

What wall decor is right for a nursery?

Soft, high and fixed. As for this product specifically, a full length open curtain in a nursery doorway is worth thinking twice about: it is a lot of loose cord at child height.

What do you call a curtain that hangs in a doorway?

A door curtain, or a portiere in older usage. Beaded and macrame versions are the two common decorative types; this is the macrame kind.

What is a good housewarming gift for a first apartment?

Something for an opening or a window rather than a wall, because those are the parts people notice last and fix last. A door curtain is an unusual gift and a genuinely useful one in a flat with no interior doors.

What curtain works as a room divider?

One that is full height and open enough not to make either side dark. That is exactly what an open knotted curtain does, and it is why it beats a solid drape for dividing a small flat.

How do I wash a macrame wall hanging?

Do not. At this size a wet knotted piece becomes extremely heavy, stretches under its own weight and takes days to dry evenly. Dust or vacuum it on low suction instead.

Are beaded curtains or macrame better for a doorway?

Macrame is quieter and warmer looking; beaded curtains rattle and read as a period reference. Macrame also passes light more softly, where beads sparkle. For a lasting choice, macrame.

What counts as bohemian decor?

Layered texture, natural materials, warm light and a tolerance for things not matching. It is a way of assembling a room rather than a set of objects, which is why one piece rarely makes a room boho on its own.

What can I use instead of a bedroom door?

A full length curtain is the usual answer where a door will not fit or is not allowed. Be clear about the trade: it gives visual separation and no sound or light privacy at all.

How do I cover a closet that has no doors?

A curtain across the opening, hung on a rod inside the reveal. An open macrame one softens the opening but does not hide what is behind it, so it suits a tidy closet rather than a full one.

How do I make a studio apartment feel like two rooms?

Break the sight line rather than the space. A full height open curtain across the middle marks a boundary while keeping both halves lit, which a bookcase or a screen does not.

Is macrame wall art worth buying?

It is worth buying for texture and softness, and not worth buying if you expect an image. The category's problem is that listings rarely say which of several quite different objects they are selling.

Does a macrame curtain block light?

Barely. It filters and breaks up light rather than blocking it, and you can see straight through the gaps between the cords. For privacy or darkness you need a solid panel behind it.

What should I hang behind a wedding altar?

Something full height, matt and neutral. A 200 cm curtain reads behind a standing couple, and the knotwork gives a photograph texture without adding a pattern.

Why is macrame so expensive?

Genuinely handmade macrame is slow work, which is what people are paying for. An import like this one is not that, and the price should reflect it. What a listing is worth paying for is honest information.

Can a macrame curtain hang outside on a porch?

Nothing in the source supports outdoor use. Cotton cord outdoors grays within a season, holds damp overnight and grows mildew in the knots where it cannot dry.

Can a macrame curtain be machine washed?

No. A machine will tighten the knots unevenly, felt the cord and wrap the whole thing around the drum. There is no practical way to wash a piece this size.

What should I hang in an archway between two rooms?

Something that follows the shape rather than fights it. A full length curtain works in an arch because the top of the curtain sits below the curve and the eye reads the arch above it.

What is a good gift for a friend who loves boho style?

Something textile rather than something decorative. Boho as a look is mostly about surfaces, so a curtain or a hanging fits almost any version of it where an ornament is a guess.

Is macrame safe around babies and toddlers?

A full length curtain of loose cord at child height is the one place we would say no. Above head height on a wall is a different question, but a doorway curtain is exactly where a toddler will be.

Can macrame be used as a photo booth backdrop?

Yes, and it is one of the better options. It has visible texture at distance, it does not reflect a flash, and unlike a paper backdrop it survives being used again.

How long is a floor length door curtain?

Usually 180 to 220 cm. This one comes in 180, 200 and 220 cm drops, so measure from where the rod will sit to the floor and take the nearest size under it.

What color macrame goes with beige walls?

Undyed cream, which is the only color this product comes in and happens to be the right answer. Cream against beige needs the texture to register, which knotwork provides and a flat fabric would not.

Does it come with a rod?

No. Our package contents read '1 x tapestry (not include wooden stick)'. Every photograph shows a pole; none of them is included.
