Macrame Feather Wall Hanging, Seven Feathers with Dipped Tips
Estimated delivery: 3–10 days
Item details Materials, dimensions, what is in the box
Six feathers hung at six different lengths, so the bottom edge is a V
Dorm walls, rental walls, kids' rooms - the places where you cannot drill, cannot paint, and where whatever goes up has to survive being knocked. Most of what is sold for those walls is a poster, which curls, or a tapestry, which sags and holds dust.
This is a macrame feather wall hanging: a bare wooden dowel, six cords of different lengths dropping from it, each ending in a combed cord feather, with small wooden beads threaded on the cords between. Because the cords are graduated, the feathers fall into a V - shortest at the outside, longest in the middle - and the bottom edge of the piece is a point rather than a line.
It measures 70 cm tall by 40 cm wide and weighs 340 g. Every feather is cream for most of its length and then dipped into a block of solid color at the tip, which is the only color on the piece and the only thing that changes between the four options.
What you get
- Six graduated cords. Each feather hangs at its own length, which is what produces the V. They are fixed lengths - there is nothing to adjust.
- A bare wooden dowel with the hanging cord already tied into a triangle at both ends.
- Small wooden beads threaded on the drop cords at different heights, so the empty cord between the dowel and a feather is not blank.
- No fixings. None included. At 340 g a single hook or nail carries it.
Dimensions, and what they mean on your wall
We publish height, width and weight in one diagram, reproduced below. The figures under the first three rows are our arithmetic.
| Height | 70 cm, measured from the top of the hanging cord to the tip of the lowest feather |
|---|---|
| Width | 40 cm at the widest point, set by the outer two feathers rather than by the dowel |
| Weight | 340 g |
| Hanging cord above the dowel | About 15 cm of the 70, scaled off the diagram. The nail sits that far above the bar. |
| Wall needed | About 50 cm wide by 80 cm tall |
| Nail height | Put the fixing 70 cm above where you want the lowest feather tip to finish. Over a desk or a bed head, that usually means 25-30 cm above the surface. |
| Depth off the wall | The feathers overlap each other rather than lying flat, so it stands slightly proud - but no figure has been verified. |
| Feather size | Scaled against the 40 cm width, each feather is roughly 18-20 cm long. |

How to hang it
One fixing. The cord is already tied across the dowel ends, and 340 g is inside the range of a decent adhesive hook - which is the point, because the walls this suits are usually walls you are not allowed to drill.
Measure from the nail. The 70 cm includes about 15 cm of hanging cord above the dowel, so the piece itself starts lower than the fixing. Over a desk or a bed head, put the hook 25-30 cm above the surface and the lowest feather tip lands clear of it.
Ruffle every feather when it arrives. They are packed flat and the combed edges compress against the spine - run your fingers outward from the center of each one and the shape opens. Do this before you decide whether the V looks right; compressed feathers read as a flat clump.
Let the cords settle. The drop cords hold a curl from the packet for a day or two and the feathers will not sit at their intended heights until they straighten. Do not try to correct the V by hand - the lengths are fixed.

Picking a color
All four are identical except for the block of color at the feather tips, and in all four the body of every feather is undyed cream. The names in the picker are our and two of them are misleading, so here is what each one actually is.
gray is a deep charcoal, almost navy in some light - the highest-contrast option and the only one that reads as neutral. It is the safe choice for a room with no color scheme yet.
khaki is a warm mid-brown, not the olive that "khaki" usually means. It is the quietest of the four and the one that disappears most easily into a wood-and-linen room.
orange is a bright coral rather than a burnt orange. It is the loudest option and the one that works in a kids' room or a dorm, where the point is that the wall has something on it.
lightblue is a clear turquoise, brighter and greener than the name suggests. Like the coral it is a statement color, and the two of them are the reason this piece sells as colorful macrame wall hanging rather than as a neutral.

Where this actually earns its place
A dorm room, first and honestly. It weighs 340 g, hangs from one adhesive hook, packs flat, and does not curl the way a poster does. As dorm wall decor it is about as low-risk as a wall gets, and it survives being taken down and put back up in a different building next year.
Second, a kids' room. Nothing hard, no glass, nothing to break, and the coral and turquoise options are aimed squarely there. As kids room wall decor it also has the advantage of not being a printed character that gets outgrown in two years.
Third, a backdrop. Several of these along a table or behind a cake reads as a set, and at this size and price it is a realistic party backdrop rather than an expensive one. It works the same way as dorm wall hanging decor generally: cheap enough to buy several, light enough to hang anywhere.
Honest limits
- Six feathers, not seven. Our own drawing shows six cords and six feathers.
- Two of the four color names are misleading. "khaki" is a warm brown, not olive. "lightblue" is a clear turquoise. Look at the photograph rather than the word.
- Neither gives a percentage, so we describe it as a blend.
- The V is fixed. The cord lengths are set at manufacture. If you were hoping to rearrange the feathers into a different shape, you cannot.
- We say it is suitable for outdoor use. We would not - combed cord with untreated wooden beads in weather is a short story. Treat it as indoor.
- No care instructions and no depth figure. Neither is published. Dust and ruffle only.
Before you buy
How many feathers are there?
Six.
How big is it?
70 cm tall by 40 cm wide, weighing 340 g. The 70 cm includes about 15 cm of hanging cord above the dowel, so allow about 50 by 80 cm of wall and set the hook 70 cm above where you want the lowest feather tip to sit.
Can I hang it without drilling?
Yes, in most cases. It weighs 340 g and hangs from a single point, which is inside the rating of a decent adhesive hook. Check your hook's stated limit - but this is the kind of piece that exists for walls you are not allowed to drill.
What color is "khaki", exactly?
A warm mid-brown, not the olive-green the word usually implies. Similarly, "lightblue" is a clear turquoise rather than a pale blue. The color appears only as a dipped block at the tip of each feather; the rest is undyed cream.
Can I use it outside?
We suggest indoor or outdoor. We would not put it outside: combed cord holds damp and the wooden beads are untreated. Treat it as an indoor piece.
Will the feathers look flat when it arrives?
Yes, for a day or two. They are packed flat and the combed edges compress against the spine. Run your fingers outward from the center of each feather, then leave the drop cords to straighten under their own weight before judging the shape.
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about the materials, care and everyday use — no fine print.
Which is the brightest?
Turquoise, comfortably. Coral is next. Chocolate brown and navy charcoal are the two that will sit quietly in a neutral room.
Will this work in a dorm?
Yes, and it is what we had in mind. It is light, hangs from one small fixing, and comes in colors that read against a plain institutional wall.
What is the difference between a feather and a leaf?
The outline. A feather is narrower with a slightly ragged asymmetric edge; a leaf is broader and comes to a symmetrical point. Both are made by knotting a spine and combing the cut ends.
Can I pack it away and reuse it?
Yes. Combed cord compresses and brushes back into shape by hand, so it survives being packed, moved and hung again. That is a real advantage for a party piece.
How do I clean it?
Dust with a soft brush from the spine outwards. Do not wash it: wet combed fiber mats and will not comb out properly.
The feathers arrived squashed, is that normal?
Yes. Hold each spine and comb the sides outwards with your fingers. It recovers in a minute per feather.
What is it made of?
Combed cord on a pale wooden dowel, with round wooden beads on several of the drops. No fiber content is published.
Where else does it work?
Above a bench as a party or dessert table backdrop, in a kids room, or in a reading nook. All three are in the photographs.
How do I decorate a blank wall above my bed?
One object at about two thirds the headboard width. This piece is small, so above a full bed it will look lost; it suits a twin or the wall beside a bed.
What are boho wall decor ideas for a small apartment?
Small pieces that move with you and fit any wall. A seven feather cluster is the kind of thing that works in a flat you will leave within a year.
What is cheap wall art under 40 dollars?
Small fiber pieces. At that price they give far more presence than a framed print, and they do not need tools or permission to hang.
What is nursery wall decor that is not a decal or a canvas print?
Textile, fixed high. It softens the room, comes with you when you move and does not peel paint. The bright colors here suit a nursery better than most of this collection.
Is macrame still in style in 2026?
Textured pieces are. Feather and leaf clusters have aged better than knotted panels because they read as shape rather than as a technique.
What are boho backdrop ideas for a baby shower dessert table?
Something small and soft above the table at eye level. A feather cluster photographs well because the combed edge catches light without reflecting a flash.
What is a good housewarming gift under 35 dollars?
A small fiber piece. It is the category that gives the most visible result at that price, and it suits a flat you have not seen.
What can I put above an armchair in a reading nook?
Something at seated eye level rather than standing height. That is lower than instinct suggests and it is why most reading corners look unfinished.
What are dorm room decor ideas for move in day?
Bring one textile for the wall, one for the bed and a warm bulb. Those three change the room in ten minutes, which matters when you are unpacking everything else.
What is a boho gift for someone moving into a first apartment?
Something small, light and colorful enough to be memorable. Neutral is safer for a large piece; for a small one, color is what makes it a gift rather than a filler.
How do I fluff macrame feathers that got flattened in the box?
Hold the spine and comb each side outwards with your fingers. Combed cord recovers fully from flat packing, and seven feathers takes about five minutes.
What are wedding sweetheart table backdrop ideas on a budget?
Small pieces repeated at different heights. Two or three feather clusters cost little, travel flat and go home onto a wall afterwards.
What are wall art ideas for a kids room that is not childish?
Shape and color rather than characters. A feather cluster in turquoise or coral reads as decor rather than as a theme, which is what stops a room dating.
How do I fill an empty bedroom wall on a small budget?
One correctly sized piece hung at the right height, rather than several small ones. The most common mistake costs nothing to fix.
What is teal and cream boho decor for a bedroom?
The turquoise option here is the closest thing in this collection to teal. In a cream room it is the single accent, which is how teal works best.
What is a good gift for a college student going into their first dorm?
Something light that hangs on one fixing and does not break in a car. A small fiber piece meets all three, which very little dorm decor does.
What wall art goes above a dresser?
Something narrower than the dresser with clearance above whatever sits on it. This piece is small, so above a full size dresser it would want a partner.
What wall decor is allowed under dorm fire rules?
Rules vary by building and most limit how much wall area can be covered. A small piece is far easier to get approved than a large textile, which is worth knowing before you buy.
How do I add a fiber piece to a gallery wall?
Let it be the largest element and put it slightly off center. Fiber and frames at equal size confuse the eye, because it cannot tell which object is the subject.
What is a nursery gift that is not clothes or toys?
Something for the wall. Nurseries get an enormous amount of clothing and almost nothing for the walls, which stay bare longest.
How long does dorm decor take to ship in August?
Longer than in other months, because everyone is buying at once. Check the product page and order earlier than you think you need to for a move in date.
What wall art works for a boho birthday party backdrop?
Something colorful and reusable. The turquoise and coral options here read at a distance in photographs and go on a bedroom wall the next day.
How much wall does a seven feather cluster actually cover?
Less than the feather count suggests. The cords are graduated so the tips form a V, which means the widest point is at the top and the piece narrows as it falls.
Check your hook's stated limit.
What color is 'khaki', exactly?
A warm mid-brown, not the olive-green the word usually implies. Similarly, 'lightblue' is a clear turquoise rather than a pale blue.
