Item details Materials, dimensions, what is in the box

The meter box on the wall is not going anywhere, and a heavy curtain over it looks like you're hiding something

Most apartments have one of these problems: a meter box bolted to a hallway wall, an open doorway between two rooms with no door to hang, or a French window that needs to soften without going dark. A blackout panel solves none of it - it just swaps one eyesore for another.

This is a single macrame door curtain, one panel of hand-knotted cream cord worked into a repeating diamond pattern, with small wood beads strung down some of the strands. We rate its light control at 1%-40% shading - it filters light, it does not block it. Nothing about it reads as a room-darkening curtain, and it is not one.

It comes in two sizes and ships as one panel per order, finished at the top with a wood dowel already worked through the piece. We built it for three jobs: covering a meter box, hanging in a doorway that has no door, and dressing a French window - which is why this reads as much like a boho window curtain as it does macrame wall decor.

Macrame Door Curtain, 90 x 180 cm or 100 x 200 cm hung on the wall above a bed

What you get

  • One curtain panel per order. Our packing list reads "Door Hanging Curtain x 1" - one panel, not a pair.
  • A choice of two sizes, 90 x 180 cm or 100 x 200 cm, each with its own size diagram.
  • A wood dowel already worked into the top, the width of the panel. It is part of the finished piece, not a separate rod - it is what every strand is knotted onto.
  • Hand-knotted diamond openwork down the upper third, running into straight hanging cord below, with small wood beads threaded on some of the strands.
  • No pole, no hooks, no bracket, and no instructions. Nothing beyond the single curtain ships in the box - plan your hanging hardware separately.

Dimensions, and what they mean on your wall

Two sizes, each with its own size diagram, and both figures also appear a second time in the description text - which is worth noting because on the large size they do not match perfectly (see below).

Small panel 90 cm wide, 180 cm tall (35.43 x 70.87 in)
Large panel 100 cm wide, 200 cm tall (39.37 x 78.74 in)
Panels per order 1, at whichever size you choose
Measurement tolerance Plus or minus 1-2 cm, because the piece is measured by hand rather than machine-cut
Doorway fit, large size 200 cm is close to floor-to-lintel on a standard interior doorway. Measure your opening before ordering; the panel does not adjust.
Doorway fit, small size At 180 cm, it will clear most doorway floors unless mounted high above the frame.
Coverage width 90 cm or 100 cm is narrower than most standard door and French window openings. A single panel will not fully close a wide opening - see Honest Limits.

Both size diagrams stacked: 90 x 180 cm and 100 x 200 cm

One of our size diagrams labels the large panel's width as "100cm/200in." That conversion is wrong - 100 cm is 39.37 in, not 200 in. We have used the correct conversion throughout this page and are flagging the diagram's error rather than repeating it.

How to hang it

The curtain arrives finished on its own wood dowel, but nothing to hang that dowel from. You will need an existing curtain rod to lay it across, a pair of cup hooks sized to the dowel's ends, or a tension rod cut to your opening - pick whichever fits your doorway or window, since none of them ship with the piece.

It also arrives folded and will hold creases. Shake it out gently after unpacking to loosen the cord - the natural cotton thread can carry a mild smell from the knotting process, which fades within a few days of hanging. Give it a day or two before judging how it drapes.

Care is hand-wash only: no washing machine, no rubbing, gentle hand pressure, and dry it flat rather than on a hanger.

Picking a size

90 x 180 cm. The shorter option, and the one to pick for a standard interior doorway, a meter box, or any opening under about 185 cm tall where you want clearance above the floor rather than a piece that grazes it.

100 x 200 cm. Sized for a full floor-to-lintel doorway or a taller French window. Measure your opening's height before choosing this one - at 200 cm it will reach the floor on most standard doors, and pool slightly on a shorter one.

Both sizes are the same design, the same single cream colorway, and the same single panel per order - the only variable is height and width together, not a separate color or pattern choice.

Where this actually earns its place

Over a meter box or a utility panel that cannot be removed or boxed in. We designed it for this use directly, and a semi-sheer knotted panel does what a solid curtain cannot: it announces there is something there without turning the wall into a blank slab.

In an open doorway between two rooms - a kitchen and a living room, a hallway and a bedroom - where you want a visual break without hardware for a real door. As boho door curtain decor, it softens the opening without closing it off, since the shading rate tops out at 40%.

Third, over a French window or a glass door as a privacy layer that still lets light through. It is not a substitute for real window coverings if you need to block a streetlight or a neighbor's sightline - see the shading rate above - but it works as the finishing layer over sheers, which is where its boho window curtain use case actually sits.

Honest limits

  • It will not block light or give real privacy. The shading rate tops out at 1-40%. At night with a lamp on behind it, this curtain does not hide the room.
  • We have not been able to resolve which is correct.
  • Nothing to hang it from is included. The dowel is part of the panel, but there is no rod, hook or bracket in the box, despite every photo on this page showing it already mounted.
  • One panel is narrower than most doorways and French windows. At 90 or 100 cm wide, it will not fully close a standard-width opening on its own; our own room photos show it hung to one side, not stretched edge to edge.
  • One of the two size diagrams has a labeling error - it prints "100cm/200in" for the large panel, which is off by a factor of five. The correct conversion, 39.37 in, is what we have used throughout this page.
  • Hand wash only, and it arrives with packing creases and a mild odor. Both are normal - no washing machine, and the smell fades after a few days hanging - but we are calling both out here since neither is obvious before you receive it.

Before you buy

How many curtain panels do I get?

One. Our packing list reads "Door Hanging Curtain x 1," regardless of which size you order.

Does it come with a rod or hooks?

No. The panel arrives finished on its own wood dowel - that part is built into the piece - but nothing to hang that dowel from. You will need an existing curtain rod, cup hooks sized to the dowel's ends, or a tension rod cut to your opening.

Will it block light or give me privacy?

Not fully. We rate it "Translucidus, Shading Rate 1%-40%" - a light filter, not a blackout curtain. At night with a light on behind it, the room is still visible through the knotwork.

Is it cotton or polyester?

Contains cotton. We are stating both claims rather than picking one, because we cannot confirm which is correct.

What size should I buy for my doorway?

Measure the opening first. 100 x 200 cm suits a full floor-to-lintel doorway or a tall French window; 90 x 180 cm suits a standard interior doorway or a shorter opening like a meter box, where you want clearance above the floor. Both come as one panel, so a wide double-door opening will need more than one order to close edge to edge.

Why does one of the size diagrams say "200in"?

It is a labeling error on the diagram. 100 cm converts to 39.37 in, not 200 in - the description text elsewhere on this page gives the correct figure a second time, and that is the number used throughout this page.

Why does it smell, and why does it arrive wrinkled?

Both are normal. It ships folded, so shake it out gently after unpacking to loosen the cord. The natural cotton thread can carry a mild smell from the knotting process, which fades within a few days once it is hung.

Can I wash it?

By hand only - no washing machine, no rubbing, gentle pressure, and lay it flat to dry rather than hanging it wet.

Detailed questions and answers

Why does one size diagram say '200in'?

How much wall or opening width does one panel cover?

90 cm or 100 cm wide, which is narrower than most standard door and French window openings. A single panel will not fully close a wide opening on its own.

Is there a color choice?

No. Both size options are the same single natural cream colorway. The Shopify option is labeled 'Color' but both of its values are sizes, not colors.

Can I use this to cover a meter box?

Yes - we built it for that use directly, alongside doorways and French windows. A semi-sheer knotted panel covers the box without turning the wall into a blank slab.

Can I hang it in a doorway with no door?

Yes, that is one of the uses we designed it for. It softens the opening without closing it off, since the shading rate tops out at 40%.

What are the small beads on the cord?

Small wood beads, threaded on some of the strands below the knotted diamond section. We list the format as 'Bead Rope.'

Is the whole panel knotted, or just part of it?

The diamond openwork pattern runs down the upper section from the dowel; below that, the cord hangs as straight, unknotted lengths to the hem.

Is the wood dowel at the top a rod I can remove?

No - it is worked into the piece itself, with every strand knotted onto it. It is not a separate accessory, and it is not the same as a curtain rod you mount to a wall.

Will the size be exact?

Within 1-2 cm, because the piece is measured by hand rather than machine-cut.

Is the option list actually about color?

No, despite the label. Both option values here are sizes (90x180cm and 100x200cm); there is no separate color choice.

Is this handmade?

We repeat that as our own claim rather than an independently verified fact.

Can it dress a French window?

What brand is this?

What exactly is in the box?

One curtain panel, at the size you ordered. Our packing list names nothing else - no rod, no hooks, no care card.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the materials, care and everyday use — no fine print.

How many curtain panels do I get?

One panel per order, regardless of which size you pick. Our packing list reads "Door Hanging Curtain x 1" - if you need to cover a full doorway or a wide French window, plan on pairing it with an existing curtain or ordering a second panel, since one panel alone will not fully close a wide opening.

Does it come with a rod or hooks?

No. The panel arrives finished on its own wood dowel, but nothing to hang that dowel from. You need an existing curtain rod, cup hooks sized to the dowel's ends, or a tension rod cut to your opening.

Will it block light or give me privacy?

Not fully. We rate it "Translucidus, Shading Rate 1%-40%" - a light filter, not a blackout curtain. At night with a lamp on behind it, the room is still visible through the knotwork, so treat this as a softening layer for a meter box or window rather than a privacy solution for a bedroom.

Is it cotton or polyester?

Contains cotton. We cannot confirm which is correct, so we are stating both claims here rather than picking one.

What size should I buy for my doorway?

Measure the opening first. 100 x 200 cm suits a full floor-to-lintel doorway or a tall French window; 90 x 180 cm suits a standard interior doorway or a shorter opening like a meter box.

Why does one size diagram say '200in'?

It is a labeling error on the diagram: 100 cm converts to 39.37 in, not 200 in. The description text elsewhere on this page gives the correct figure a second time, and 39.37 in is the number we have used consistently throughout this page.

Why does it smell, and why does it arrive wrinkled?

Both are normal. It ships folded, so shake it out gently after unpacking to loosen the cord, and give it a day or two before judging how it drapes. The natural cotton thread used in the knotting can carry a mild smell that fades within a few days of hanging.

Can I wash it?

By hand only - no washing machine and no rubbing. Use gentle pressure, then lay it flat to dry rather than hanging it while it is still wet.

A semi-sheer knotted panel covers the box without turning the wall into a blank slab, though keep in mind it filters light rather than hiding what is mounted behind it entirely.

Can I hang it in a doorway with no door?

Yes, that is one of the uses we designed it for. It softens the opening without closing it off, since the shading rate tops out at 40%, so expect a decorative screen rather than real privacy or a draft block.

What are the small beads on the cord?

Small wood beads, threaded on some of the strands below the knotted diamond section, visible in the macro photography on this page. Bead rope format.

Within 1-2 cm either way, because each piece is measured by hand rather than cut by machine.

Is the option list actually about color?

No, despite the label. Both option values here are sizes - 90 x 180 cm and 100 x 200 cm - not colors. There is only one colorway, natural cream, across both sizes.

Can it dress a French window?

Works as a semi-sheer finishing layer for French windows - it softens the glass but won't block light.

What exactly is in the box?

One curtain panel, at the size you ordered, finished on its own wood dowel. Our packing list names nothing else - no rod, no hooks, no care card - so plan your hanging hardware before it arrives.
